Cabo San Lucas

Bettie Kensmoe recently returned from a familiarization trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.  She inspected several resort/hotel properties and swam with the dolphins. Here is part of her report on the Cabo San Lucas area and some of her photos.  Bettie has an extensive collection of photos of hotel/resort properties in the area.  Call Bettie at 701.492.5000 or email.  She will be pleased to help you plan your Cabo vacation.

Cabo San Lucas Desert and Cactus

Cabo is a desert location - like taking Phoenix and putting it on the ocean.  Lots of cactus, deserts and mountains.

There are actually 3 different areas. San Jose, the more traditional Mexico, relaxed and laid back, with lots of shopping, restaurants and things to do.  The Corridor - the beach area between the two cities of San Jose and Cabo San Lucas, has lots of resorts but no shopping, dining or entertainment close by.  Cabo San Lucas has lots of shopping, dining and entertainment.

Host hotel for the visit, the Pueblo Bonito Pacifica, has very dramatic entrances as you drive down the winding road to the resort.  This remote retreat and spa resort is located on the beach. In the evening, there are fire pits and seating around. Recommended for someone wanting to do nothing but lie on the beach, rejuvenate at the spa, as there is not night life.  It has two sister properties,  Pueblo Bonito Rose and Pueblo Bonito Sunset Resort & Spa, with transfers between the resorts 3 times a day.

The Villa del Palmar & Spa & Spa, is a condo property with suites up to 2-bedroom accommodations.  It is located on the Sea of Cortez, with a swimable beach and a short walk to town.  Cruise ships are visible as they are in port. This property is good for families since the rooms have kitchen facilities and there is a nice pool complete with waterslide. It has nightly entertainment and a kids club.

Riu Palace
is a large all-inclusive resort about 10 minutes from downtown Cabo.  There will be another Riu built next door in another year or so.  This is a very nice property, the best area is the pool.  It has a nice infinity pool area with swim up bars and other in-the-water seating area.  There are seven restaurants, five bars including the two swim up bars.  This is a active property which is perfect for all ages.
Melia Cabo San Lucas has upscale accommodations, located on the beach and within walking distance to the downtown area.  As you walk in the lobby, there is an amazing ocean view.  Pool is very nice with cabanas located throughout the area and on the beach.  Passions nightclub, very modern, made me think of a nightclub in Los Angeles.    It has sheer curtains offering privacy and overstuffed chairs.  It is a very active property which is perfect for the young at heart.  Music plays until the wee hours of the morning and can be heard from all rooms.  Perfect for young professionals.

Cabo San Lucas Rock Formation

A highlight of my visit was the the 2 1/2-hour sunset cruise aboard a double-decker yacht. It cruises the bay and  views the famous arch. This cruise offers a buffet dinner and drinks.

Dolphin Swim
Awesome experience. Limited space, 7 days a week, 6 sessions weekdays, 4 sessions on weekends.
