Mysterious China & Yangtze River Itinerary

Day 1 - Upon arrival at Beijing International Airport, you'll be met by a China International Travel Service guide and transferred to your hotel.

Day 2 - Beijing - Explore the Great Wall of China and Ming Tombs.  After a Chinese lunch, step through the Sacred Way into the Ming Tombs.

Day 3 - Beijing - Start with the famous Tian'anmen Square, which is considered the center of Beijing and symbol of China.  After lunch, tour the Summer Palace, including the Empress Dowager's retreat, Long Corridor, the gardens and Kunming Lake. Tonight's dinner is Peking Duck.

Day 4 - Beijing - Vist the Temple of Heaven, considered a symbol of Beijing, where Ming and Qing dynasty emperors performed rites for the entire nation expressing thanks for the previous harvest and begging the gods to bless the coming harvest.  After lunch, fly to Xi'an and visit the Ancient City Wall.

Day 5 - Xi'an - Visit the Terracotta Warriors today, including a special behind-the scenes tour of the Terracotta Warriors.  In 1974, a peasant digging a well cam upon what now stands as one of the main attractions in China and one of the most important archaeological finds of the 20th Century.  Tour the Shaanxi Provincial Museum and tonight enjoy a Tang Dynasty dinner and show.

Day 6 - Xi'an - Chongqing - Yangtze River Cruise - Fly to Chongqing, a busy port and the starting point of the Yangtze River Cruise.  After lunch, visit the Chongqing Zoo to see the giant panda.  This evening; embark on the 5-star cruiser, MV Century Star.

Day 7 - Yangtze - Sail through the Wanxian and Qutang Goge; Wanxian is a trading center and port for ships traveling through the gorges.  Shore-excursion to Fengdu, which will be completely submerged when the Three Gorges Dam's reservoir fills up.

Day 8 - Yangtze - Sail through the western part of the Xiling Gorge and Wu Gorge.  The 66-kilometer Xiling Gorge is really made up of several smaller gorges.  The second gorge of the Three Gorges, the Wu Gorge, is surrounded by twelve mountain peaks and steeped in legend.  Continue on a shore-excursion to Shennong Stream.

Day 9 - Yichang - Shanghai - Sail through the eastern part of the Xiling Gorge and continue on a shore-excursion to the Three Gorges Dam Project.  You will be taken to see the immense construction and to a viewpoint above the dam to appreciate the scale of the project.  Disembark from Yichang and fly to Shanghai after lunch to be met by your guide and escorted to your hotel.

Day 10 - Shanghai - Tour the city of Shanghai, which has become one of the world's most dynamic cities, yet still holds traces of its turbulent history.  Next explore the classical Yuyuan Garden and Shanghai Musuem.  This evening enjoy an Acrobatic Show.

Day 11 - Depart Shanghai - After a free morning for exploration, your guide will excort you to the airport for your flight home.
