Requirements for US Citizens.

- January 23,
2007 – Passport Requirement applied
to all air and sea travel to or from Canada,
Mexico, Central and South America, the
Caribbean, and Bermuda.
- January 1, 2008 – As soon as
January 1, 2008 — A passport or other
accepted document will be required for
land border crossings and sea travel within
the Western Hemisphere. Although the
requirement to possess a valid passport for
sea travel and land border crossings could
be extended to as late as June 1, 2009, the
government can accelerate this date based on
meeting certain standards and is
recommending that travelers be prepared for
the passport requirement as early as January
1, 2008.
The Intelligence Reform and Terrorism
Prevention Act of 2004 required that by
January 23, 2007, travelers to and from the
Caribbean, Bermuda, Panama, Mexico and Canada
have a passport or other secure, accepted
document to enter or re-enter the United States.
In order to facilitate the implementation of
this requirement, the Administration is
proposing to complete it in phases following the
above proposed timeline. For

Complete the process
by bringing the passport photos, the certified copy of birth
certificate, and application to the U.S. Post
Office in Fargo. The application must be
notarized at the Post Office so do not sign the application in advance. Processing time can vary depending on the time of the year from
