Climate
Tahiti, in French Polynesia enjoys warm, tropical weather year-round. The climate is divided into two seasons: a "summer" that spans from November through March, when the daily temperature is about 86 degrees Fahrenheit, and most of the rain falls; and a drier "winter" that spans from April through October, when the daily temperature is about 82 degrees Fahrenheit. The year-round low is about 70 degrees Fahrenheit. The average water temperature is in the low 80s.
Language
French is the official language in Tahiti. However, English is understood and spoken in hotels, as well as most shops and restaurants.
Clothing
During the day shorts, bathing suits or local pareu are acceptable.  For walking on the reef it's good to have an old pair of tennis shoes or plastic sandals.  In the evenings, most hotels ask men to wear long pants and a shirt and not be barefooted.  Jeans, casual shoes, thongs or slacks are acceptable for men, and a light sundress, slacks or shorts for the women.  Between June and September, evenings tend to be a little cooler. And even through tropical rain showers are more refreshing than chilling, it's a good idea to keep a raincoat that will fit into a pocket or purse.
Tips
This is one part of the world where you do not tip. Polynesian hospitality doesn't allow it.
Time Difference
Tahiti is in the same time zone as Hawaii, making it two hours behind the West Coast during Pacific Standard Time, and three hours behind during Pacific Daylight Time.
Entry Requirements
U.S. and Canadian citizens need a passport valid for six months beyond their date of return. If your passport is other than U.S. or Canadian, check with the French Consulate. No immunization certificates are required.
