Northwest Airlines Policy for Non-Refundable Tickets

Effective for Tickets Issued on/after November 1, 2006

Non-refundable Ticket Exchange

  • Wholly Unused Tickets - If a customer misses the ticketed travel date, the customer is required to select a new travel date and exchange the ticket within one year from the original departure date.
  • Partially Unused Nonrefundable Tickets - If a customer misses the ticketed continuing/return flight, a new flight may be rescheduled and the ticket exchanged no later than one year from the original departure date.
  • Unused Domestic tickets that have previously been exchanged must commence travel with one year from the original ticket's outbound travel date.
  • Extensions to this validity policy are not permitted.  Once any ticket expires, Northwest will retain all amounts collected from the passenger as an administrative service charge/cancellation fee.

Other Airlines Policy for Non-Refundable Tickets

Wholly unused nonrefundable tickets can be used up to one year from the date of the first flight of the customer's domestic itinerary.  For international itineraries, wholly unused nonrefundable tickets can be used up to one year from the date of the original ticket issuance.  The change fee on Non-Refundable Tickets will continue to apply for each change made as well as all other fare terms and conditions and any difference in fare when changing travel plans.

The best advice to travelers is:  Always listen carefully as the travel agent explains the rules of the fare and the non-refundable exchange policy.  These policies can change quickly without advance notice to either travel agents or the public in general.
