I love to research and plan travel. I have extensive knowledge of Mexico. Some of my favorite destinations are Playacar, Cozumel, Costa Mujeres and Cancun. I have been a travel agent since 2022 but prior to that I planed several trips a year for f...

I love the beach in Playacar!!

One of my favorite places to visit in Mexico is Playacar. They have the best beach in my opinion. Playacar is a gated community and I've always felt very safe there. It is in walking distance to 5th Avenue where there are lots of shops and things to see on the way and once there. In 2024 we stayed at the Riu Palace Rivera Maya. A benefit of staying at one of the 2 Palaces in Playacar is that you can visit any of the other Rius in the area. There are 6 Rius in the Playacar Community (2 are across the road from the beach). If you stay at a regular Riu you can visit the other Rius which are not Palaces. We love to walk the beach so it is super nice to be able to stop at other Riu Resorts for a snack and drink along the way as I always get thirsty walking in the hot sun. Beach bar hoping is the best.  I also love that the Riu Resorts do not require diner reservations, you just go when you are hungry. If they are busy they will give you an estimated wait time and a buzzer if you want to wait or otherwise you can chose a less busy restaurant that evening. I traveled with family and friends and everyone in our group agreed that the food was really good. My favorite was the steak house. It was amazing! They have a 24 hour lounge where you can grab something to eat or drink at any time. They also have room service which we didn't use but it was available. The rooms have mini bars along with liquor dispensers and deep soaking tubs in them. The property is beautiful and was always clean. They had lots of activities that we took part in and they had evening shows that varied, some better than others. Another plus to staying in this area is that you are not too far from some of the popular attractions such as Xel-Ha, Xplor, and Xcaret.  You are also within walking distance to the ferry that goes over to Cozumel if that is a place you'd like to visit for the day. It is a family friendly resort but I didn't see a ton of kids there and would recommend it to families and couples (as long as they are not looking for adult only.) My clients who stayed here have had great things to say about it. I really enjoyed my stay at The Riu Palace Rivera Maya and will go back again someday.
