Star Clipper at Sunset

I had the opportunity to do a trip with Star Clippers Cruises and it's been one of my best trips EVER!  This cruise departed from Panama and ended in Costa Rica, so lots of island time on this cruise!  The first few stops in Panama were truly almost deserted island.  Because of the time it took to get to Panama, I was in Panama City a day early so I decided to kill 2 birds with one stone on this trip and I did a partial transit of the canal.  What an amazing tour!  It was interesting to see how the canal works and to get the history of how it was built.

If you're not familiar with Star Clippers, this is a true sailing ship and so to go anywhere, sails were in use at all times (although they do have an engine as a backup).  This was a smaller ship so you really got to know a lot of your fellow adventurers while on your trip.

The first three stops on this cruise were in the waters off Panama.  Day one had my little Survivor Fan heart skipping a beat.....we were in the Pearl Islands!  Not the island that the show was shot on, but I think I did figure out which on it was.  We also had stops on Iguana Island and Marine Park Golfo de Chriqui for days two and three.

Once we were into Costa Rica, we were actually more into a typical cruise stop starting with Golfito where I did a Dolphin and Beach Escape tour.  We headed quite a way out before finally spotting a few dolphins and a couple of turtles, but it was a beautiful day to be on the water and the scenery was amazing.

Our next stop was Manuel Antonio National Park...this was the day I had been waiting for....we were going to see SLOTHS!  This was the most amazing tour and I was completely exhausted but happy to have seen so much wildlife while we were out and about.  More sloths and wildlife were in store on our last day at Isla Tortuga.  Story of my life, I missed seeing a scarlet macaw but 30 seconds because I was looking the wrong way!!  Another day of hiking and wildlife was topped off with a quiet night on deck just looking at all the stars before ending our cruise the following day in Puerto Caldera.

I've done other ocean cruises as well as river cruises and this is such a unique opportunity, I highly recommend it to anyone that's looking for something different.  This is well worth your while for sure!  The food was amazing, the entertainment was wonderful and the staff was so friendly.  I would go on another one for sure!  The one I have my eye on goes through the Grand Canal in Venice....here's hoping that's on my schedule for the future!
